The Board is deeply committed to preserving, studying, and promoting diverse religious, philosophical, and cultural traditions, both Eastern and Western.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Academic Disciplines<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Board conducts postgraduate degree and training programmes in the following subject areas:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pali<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sanskrit<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Greek and Roman Studies (Western Classical Culture)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fine Arts<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hindu Civilization<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Islamic Studies<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Buddhist Studies<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">These disciplines not only explore ancient languages and texts, but also engage with living traditions, cultural practices, and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding human belief systems, values, and artistic expression.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Programmes Offered<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Board offers the following postgraduate qualifications:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Postgraduate Diploma<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Master of Arts (MA)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Master of Philosophy (MPhil)<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Each programme is designed to provide students with rigorous academic training, research skills, and a deep appreciation of cultural heritage. Whether students are looking to pursue careers in academia, religious institutions, cultural organizations, or international NGOs, these programmes offer valuable foundations for both scholarly and practical engagement.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">International Appeal<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One of the distinctive features of this Board is its strong international student presence. Each year, around 50 foreign students\u2014particularly from Asian and Western countries\u2014enroll in the Pali and Buddhist Studies programmes. These students are drawn by PGIHS\u2019s academic excellence, the rich Buddhist heritage of Sri Lanka, and opportunities for immersive learning experiences.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The diverse student body contributes to a vibrant, intercultural academic atmosphere where ideas are exchanged across borders and traditions. Many international graduates go on to pursue careers in global religious organizations, interfaith dialogue, cultural preservation, and teaching.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Student Enrolment<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In total, the Board of Study in Religious and Cultural Studies welcomes approximately 100 students annually across all its programmes.
