To give a brief account of how I came to study at Peradeniya, a venerable monk once told me that Sri Lanka is an ideal place to study Buddhism. On his suggestion, I visited Peradeniya and having seen the surroundings and nature and the beautiful campus, I started my journey reading for a PhD in Buddhist Studies at the University of Peradeniya. I was inspired by and learned much from my teachers such as Prof. P.B. Meegaskumbura, Prof. P. D. Premasiri, and other academic staff. During my studies, I not only learned of Buddhist practices and philosophy but was also fortunate enough to experience the actual Theravada Buddhist tradition. This process enhanced and strengthened my studies and practice of Buddhism.
